I read somewhere that hyperlinks(in body content) on a homepage to other pages within the site improve the SE rankings? Do you think internal linking is very important?

I believe that an internal link is also considered as a back link but doesn’t have much weight in it, but it is still a good link to your site. What I like about internal linking is that it is free and you can do it as long as you want to.
