Actually, it depends upon the content of your website and the types of visitors you get. In general adsense has performed better for me, but I do have a couple affiliate offers that do well.

I don't have a website but I do have a blog that I have been trying to monetize. My blog is about chocolate and I have several affiliate links on it. Nothing happening so far. But I need to get more traffic. Another problem!

Honestly I would suggest you use google ads. Most people who look at your blog or site are looking for stuff related to your topic. And most people are consumers, not marketers.

I would advice you to go for affiliate programs only if your site is receiving at least 1,000 or more visitors a day otherwise you would be better off using Adsense on your site. Things are even harder on affiliate program.

Now, if you are willing to spend some money on affiliate programs then you may do so.

Does anyone know how to get google adsense to post appropriate ads on your site? I find that somtimes they put up adst hat have nothing to do with the site subject or the articles content.

It all depends on how well you can include the keywords on every article you write. Adsense ads are dependent on keywords. Try to write more of your keywords on every post that you do.

I too recommend Adsense. Depending on what your site content is, you will most likely gain a better return on Adsense however there are some affiliate networks out there that offer something for "everyone" so it might be a matter of search and find...
